We finished the requirement part and we were ready for the next phase, analysis phase.

Based on our agreement with client, we were going to use SQL Server 2005, SharePoint Server 2007 and PerformancePoint Server 2007 as tools for Business Intelligence system. What we were going to build was not pure BI system, but we were asked to build some features that is used for daily needs. So for that matters, we decided to build the system with Ruby on Rails. What is Business Intelligence ?

I’ve told you my short-unfinished experience story about business intelligence. But, before I continue, I want to answer the first question came up on my first post. Yes, it is “what is business intelligence (BI) ?”

All you people should have known information system software like your university’s online registration system, your office’s task progress tracker system, government’s tax system, or anything else that you see or use it often. That kind of system is called with day-to-day data transactional system (at least I call it so). The system provide us with real time data, because every second, minute, hour, or day data transaction occurred is recorded in the database. So the data time information is very clear and precise. Hello Business Intelligence! – Intro and Requirement Part

what is business intelligence (BI)?

That question was never answered since it showed up in my mind 2 years ago until i started work on it 3 months ago. Our client asked us to create a business intelligence system running on Microsoft SQL Server 2005, along with PerformancePoint Server 2007 and SharePoint Server 2007. They expect to have a system so they could see their organization performance easily, only in 3 months. Wow! i could only respond in a good way, because it really was a challenging matter, though somehow it slightly possible. Not only that, we found out that they hadn’t had some automated system run for their daily operation. So far, they only depend on spreadsheet application to store their data.
